Gods and monsters
Marking the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the 300th anniversary of Handel’s and Gay’s Acis and Galatea, 2018 seemed a fitting year to explore the long eighteenth century’s fascination with the divine, the monstrous, the overlap between these terms, and the whole range of gradations in between.
Please join us on the University of Rochester’s campus for two days of panels on the marvelous, the gothic, the carnivalesque, the uncanny, the deviant, the savage, the operatic, and more.
